Hiker's Heaven, Heritage SpruceHike description:Enjoy a scenic 5 mile drive along the Sitka shoreline and then we drive 1.5 miles up a mountain valley road to the trailhead. Our hike begins by crossing a crystal clear stream on a classic wooden bridge. We hike a short series of switchbacks at an easy pace and open into a level boardwalk through fragrant hemlock forest and open meadows. Another classic wooden bridge and hand hewn spiral log steps lead us up to “Hikers Heaven” with beautiful views of surrounding snow capped summits. Then it is on to other beautiful sights and sites, including a stand of magnificent old growth spruce. We don’t want to tell every thing about this hiking experience so you can enjoy a sense of discovery along the way. You will love this hike. On the way home we stop at the Theobroma Chocolate factory... “Oh yes!” Difficulty Level:Moderate to easy, for someone in average physical condition. If you can walk three miles easily, you can do this hike no problem. Hike distance:2.5 miles Trail tread:Mostly hardened with gravel and boardwalks. The switchback section can be a bit slippery on very wet days. Time:
What to bring:Comfortable footwear with non slip tread. On a dry day you can do this hike in your Nikes, when it’s wet, you need something a bit more skookum. (sturdy). Like a hiking boot. Bring your camera and binoculars if you have them. A daypack is nice so you have a place to put all those hand crafted Sitka chocolates. We supply “True” Alaska bottled water. We also carry a supply of extra daypacks if you need to borrow one and “emergency” ponchos for unexpected liquid sunshine events. Departs 9:00 AM from Centennial Hall Parking area.Return to downtown 12:00 PM
